Obituary of Deborah Ann Hodges

Spencer, TN- Deborah Ann Hodges, age 69 passed away at Ascension of Rutherford County on January 27 after an extended illness.

Deborah was born October 29, 1952, to loving parents William Bill Smith and Geneva Blanche Smith in McMinnville Tennessee.

She was a graduate of Van Buren County High School and a lifelong resident of the Piney Community. Deborah was a member of Welchland Baptist Church and loved her church family. She was an avid gardener who loved to plant flowers, and feed and watch her birds.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 43 years, Dudley Estill Hodges, Her children; Julie (Travis) Hillis, Darlene (Jeff) Walling, and Karla Hutson, grandchildren; Chloe Hillis, Tanner (Jacquline) Hillis, Shane (Megan) Walling, Shaina Walling, Jamie (Ashley) Hutson, and Jason Hutson, Jeremy Hodges and Kristi Hodges also many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She also leaves behind: sister; Brenda Hatcher, brothers; Lavaughn Smith and Bruce Smith, sister-in-law; Wanda (Noble) Bouldin, Geneva Dodson, G’nell Mooneyham, Clata (Bill) Hildreth, and brother-in-law; J.L. Hodges.

She is preceded in death by parents William and Geneva Smith. Sister; Peggy Smith, brothers; Mark Smith and Gary Smith, and Son; Billy Hodges, parents-in-law; Fred (Dovie) Hodges, brother-in-law; Charles (Inez) Hodges.

She will always be known as Ma Deb, not only by her family, but by anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. She was Ma Deb to her children’s friends growing up and to her grandchildren’s friends growing up. She will forever be our Ma Deb.

Funeral Services will be Monday January 31, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the Layne Chapel with Brother Mike Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Cummingsville Cemetery. Visitation times are Sunday 12:00pm-8:00pm, and Monday 9:00am until time of service at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Cummingsville Cemetery trust fund for upkeep of the cemetery.
