Obituary of John Charles McCotter

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John C. McCotter, 67, passed away at his home in Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee on Saturday, October 1, 2022. He was born on June 24, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert and Edith McCotter, who preceded him in death, as well as his brothers, Jerry and Jim McCotter.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Lawler McCotter; daughters and sons in law, Pietra and Jason Bush of Manchester; Maggie and Larry Orames of Gruetli-Laager; his grandchildren, Robert and Graciella Villa, Stella and Katie Orames; his sisters, Carol Nador Estes, Patricia Saulter, Mary McCotter Kind, and several nieces and nephews.

John was a proud US Navy veteran, serving 1974-1995, stationed in Edzell, Scotland; Rota, Spain; Misawa, Japan; San Diego, California; and on the USS Merrill. He then worked and retired from Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, California. John and Linda bought a farm in Gruetli Laager in 2019 with their daughter, Maggie and son in law, Larry, and built their dream home. He loved living on the farm and riding his 4-wheeler. When asked what he loved the most, he always said his family— his wife, daughters, sons in law, and most especially his grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Decherd on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 11:00 am followed by his burial and a Celebration of Life at his home in Gruetli-Laager at 2:00 PM with military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. All family and friends are invited to attend
